Shanmuga Priya Dharshini’s Kalaamandiram Bharatanatyam Academy (KBA)
Shanmuga Priya Dharshini’s ‘Kalaamandiram Bharatanatyam Academy (KBA) established in Chennai, in 2016, with the vision of teaching Bharatanatyam as a Shaastra, going by the meaning ‘Shaasanaat traayate iti shaastram’ – That which protects by giving guidance. Kalamandiram was initially functioning under the name of Kalaanjali Academy of Fine Arts, in Coimbatore for around 7 years, teaching various fine arts.
Priyadharshini firmly believes that Bharatanatyam, as an art, can lead to the ultimate purushartha. After she started her advanced learning with Smt Chitra Visweswaran, Priyadharshini was astonished to see how Chitra Akka was actually living this truth. Bharatanatyam was the path to a spiritual journey and Akka was a guiding light to her students enabling them to experience the same. Being completely overwhelmed by this experience of the art , Kalaamandiram Bharatanatyam Academy, became an affiliate of CAPA, with the humble desire that, by Isvara’s grace and Guru’s grace, the students of Kalaamandiram may be given an opportunity to come closer to this true living legend.
